OOTN: 3.1.13

Hey guys! I was headed out for sushi and decided to make a quick post! It's been pretty chilly here in Miami, which I surprisingly love because its always hot here and I have a deep love for outerwear.

Tonight I was able to pull out my olive wool double breasted peacoat that I got at a steal at old navy last winter. I was so excited to wear it that I made it he focal point of my outfit, wearing basic leggins and a simple black blouse. I completed the look with suede fringe boots from target, leopard scarf from agaci and my two tone Hermes bag. How have you been embracing the winter?

Outfit of the Day & New Do

Hello guys!! I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have been gearing up for the relaunch of my vintage boutique (FEBRUARY 1st!) and I am so excited about the new things that will be introduced in the coming months!
Top: Love Culture, Pants &Sweater: Target, Shoes: Marshall's, Jewelry: Authur's Atlanta

Last night I had a casual date, movie night with a friend. I didn't want to overdress but I still wanted to be fabulous! This spring is all about pattern and texture mixing, so I paired these awesome coated denim jeans..which look like leather pants with a soft pink graphic blouse with a lacy print. I added an oversized dolman sweater to compliment edginess of pants and cute super fem bow flats to compliment the blouse. Accessories included chunky earrings, bracelet and a fab two-finger ring.

A few people on my instagram page (@bossofbeauty) are new to my do' although I've rocked it before. I felt like channeling my inner Bey! It's a go to style of mine when I want to be chic with little effort in styling. The trick to creating a china bang is to curl your longer lengths tighter than the shorter ones. As you can see in my picture, my bangs are longer on one side than the other! Be creative and try new styles.

Cajun Tilapia Recipe

I posted this picture on my instagram and was asked if I could share the recipe to this simple dish! I was inspired by this recipe from allrecipes.com however I made a few changes to make it healthier and accommodate what I had in the fridge already! So here it is- my Cajun Tilapia Recipe!

What you need:

Four Pieces of Boneless Tilapia
Butter or Olive oil for cooking

Cajun Seasoning
1/4 cup Paprika
1 tbsp lemon pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp onion powder
1tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
a pinch of lawry's seasoning salt

Cream Reduction
1/2 Cup Fresh Spinach
1/2 Cup Sliced Fresh Mushrooms
1 tsp Fresh Garlic
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 Can of Cream of mushroom soup
1/4 cup of evaporated milk
1 dallop of light cream cheese
Water or stock to be used as a thinner, as needed
Optional: Shrimp or Sausage

Directions:
    1. Preheat  two large skillets with a generous amount of butter or olive oil.
    2. In one skillet, add mushrooms, garlic, onion and spinach and cook on medium heat until onions are translucent.

    3. Combine all ingredients for the cajun seasoning in a flat dish and coat both sides of fish with the mixture. DO Not discard the left over seasoning, it will be used for your reduction.

    4. Drop the fish into the preheated pan and cook on medium/low heat about 4 minutes on each side. Be sure to watch carefully! Tilapia cooks fast!
    5. In your veggie skillet, reduce heat and  add cream of mushroom, evaporated milk and cream cheese and remaining cajun seasoning. Stir consistently until mixture becomes creamy.
    6. The sauce will thicken, use water or broth to reach constancy of your choice while continuing to stir.
    7. Add shrimp or sausage (I used  turkey sausage) to your reduction and allow to simmer until meat is cooked. Continue to stir.

To serve. Place tilapia on serving dish and drizzle reduction on top of the fish. Suggested sides are cajun rice, red beans and rice, or mashed potatoes with green beans or asparagus.

    Enjoy!

    Color blocking OOTD

Am I the only person that picks an accessory to wear for the day then coordinates an entire outfit around that accessory?! Backwards, I know, but believe it or not that's how I coordinate most of my outfits. I am an accessory queen!

Needless to say, today's outfit inspiration came from a must-wear accessory! I was running to a quick meeting and I didn't feel like flat ironing my hair, so I opted to wear a vintage scarf from my online boutique. This scarf is one of my personal DVD because it has soooo many colors to work with, making outfit possibilities endless.

I chose bright red skinny jeans from F21 paired with a heather grey sheer sweater I picked up from Burlington Coat Factory. I like the contrast of brights and neutrals in color blocking--it gives a sense of balance to the outfit. I added another level of color blocking with a solid cobalt blue purse from old navy.

My gold cage earrings are from Burlington, my bangle is from Authurs in Atlanta, Ga and my glasses are from a little shop in Chicago,IL.

How do you rock the color blocking trend?
